2011 Pikes Peak Int'l Hill Climb: Kicking Off With A BBQ

The Phatt Man and Todd have arrived in Colorado, as well as Geezer from Mexico and the Pikes Peak pre-race festivities began with a bbq.

We had about a dozen people over and the guests of honor were Liz and Bob "Jonsie" Jones.  Jonsie and Geezer became best friends in Paris, France in the early 1960s when they were both lieutenants in the U.S. Army.  The friendship continued as they were both deployed back to the States several years later and Bob and Liz and my parents and their growing families all spent time together in the midwest.  But a few moves later the Jones family ended up on the east coast and the Stewarts were in Minnesota.

So it has been almost 40 years since they've seen each other....and the "Jonsies" live just 10 minutes from Todd and I here in Colorado!  It brought me a lot of joy to see them connect as the Jonsies walked in our front door and stood there in a circle and talked each other's heads off for the first 20 minutes!

Doggies Tank and Dozer match the car.

We race BMX too - Todd's Huffy Thunder Road and my Huffy Sweet Thunder (1976).

Geezer with Liz & "Jonesie" Jones of Evergreen - old friends who met in Paris in the early 1960s and haven't seen each other in almost 40 years.  Look at those smiles!
