Small World - Bumping Into PanAm Friends

Image
In the last few months I've been lucky to hang with some great people I met at La Carrera! In March on my way to Australia and New Zealand I bumped into Stanley Bauer. I met Stanley at the PanAm in 2006 when he was navigating with Christian Reichardt in the original PanAm Lincoln. I was waiting in the security line at LAX as he was passing by, we locked eyes and he stopped dead in his tracks. With his race helmet in hand, he was on his way to Melbourne to race. Later after I'd driven several hundred miles on the left side of the road in Oz it got me to wondering about racing both right hand and left hand drive cars - I'm sure it keeps it exciting! In April Dyana Marlett flew from L.A. to watch her Red Wings slaughter the Colorado Avalanche. I thought she would get beat up prancing around in her big old red jersey in front of the rabid (and losing) Avs fans, but both of us girls were wearing our cowboy boots so we held our ground. ;) In early May, Todd came to Golden, Colora...

2008: Chihuahua Express Crash & Burn Photos

Even though Moriah was out for the count on the first day, from the photos people sent, it looks like everyone had a great time. My brother, along with Brian Glass, navigated for Gerie Bledsoe and got on the podium. They placed 6th overall in Gerie's Camaro, pretty cool. Todd Landon's two '65 Mustang Fastbacks ran very well.....official results to follow for the Bag O'Nails and the Gypsy Wind. There were quite a few crashes and mechanicals, and a few cars that burned up, but the only injury was a broken heel, thank God. Rene with the Todd Landon built '65 Fastbacks Bag O'Nails (blue) and the Gypsy Wind (white). Thank you to Dyana Marlett at www.dyanamarlett.com for allowing the use of her beautiful photos. 2008: Moriah in Chihuahua - A Little Too Chummy With A Guardrail

Image
" Moriah" at Al Hagen's Yesterday's Autos in Minneapolis a week before the race. The update from the Chihuauhua Express 2008 - Moriah arrived beautiful and shiny and new, but she didn't stay that way. On the first day of racing she got too close to the guardrail and her left side was wiped out. Thankfully my dad and brother were unharmed. As my mom would say, "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" Stewie, Rene and Geezer with "Moriah", all looking good the morning of the start of the Chihuahua Express 2008

2008: Off to Chihuahua for El Expresso!

"Moriah" I am stoked to report that my PanAm team, TumbaBurros de Zacatecas (TBZ) has joined forces with Todd Landon's Mustangs To Go for the Chihuahua Express 2008 Road Rally in Chihuahua, Mexico on April 11-13, 2008. Mustang builder Todd Landon will arrive with "Moriah", his 1967 Shelby GT350 convertible with rubber toes on the starting line. The piloto/copiloto team is led by the U.S. Organizer for La Carrera Panamericana, Gerie Bledsoe (CA) and includes Vance Stewart Jr. (Zacatecas, Mex), Vance Stewart III (VA) and Brian Glass (MN). Todd's vintage Mustang corral also includes the highly competetive "Bag O' Nails" driven by Richard Tyzack (U.K.) and "The Gypsy Wind" driven by Doug Allen (CO) - both veteran Historic C cars/drivers of ChiX and La Carrera Panamericana ( http://bisonspirit.blogspot.com/ ). El Expreso is a 3-day road rally covering 1,000+ miles in the Mexican state of Chihuahua where competitors will race their powe...
