The Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival was amazing and the best part was getting to see a whole pile of La Carrera friends.  Nothing but smiles and laughter the whole weekend!  And there nothing like California wine country, it is so beautiful.  Also met some fabulous new friends and spent Saturday with my cousins and Sunday with a dear old friend/former coworker.  The Carrera folks I saw included Michael Emery, Luca Maciucescu, Rich Morrison, Martin Lauber and his mechanic Eric, Chip Fudge, and Joe Harding.  On Sunday I finally read the race program and was stoked to see that Martin McGlone was racing.  I ran all over that place three times looking for him until I learned he had blown his Bugatti engine at Mille a few weeks prior and didn't make this race.  Sorry to miss you, Martin!  Also had a near miss as Brad and Erin Kaplan are road tripping in their 1929 Ford Pickup and I just missed them by a day but Lauren Scheller sent a photo of...

2008 PanAm: Day 5 Already.....

Hello, sorry, internet has been non-existent for quite a while. El Jefe is running very well, maybe in the 30 somthing place overall and no mechanical troubles. Todd,s boys are running quite well, typically either first, second or third in their class, or some combination thereof. On Day 2 both the Gypsy Wind and the Bag ONails hit a dip in the road during a speed stage and split their sump (that,s British for ripped open their oil pan) but Richard was able to get theirs fixed quickly by a local mechanic and finish the day, missing only 1 speed stage. Martin and Jon had dumped all their oil on the road so we had to put them on the trailer and they didn,t run the next day while the car was being fixed. There has been quite a bit of carnage but as far as we,ve heard, no one is seriously heard. A gorgeous Sunbeam was totalled on the first day, my friends Jorge and Tomas in the white Volvo went off road but they are okay. We ended up giving them a ride back to Oaxaca because they were ri...

Vance F. Stewart, Jr. Obituary                 February 5, 2022 Vance F. Stewart, Jr. AKA “The Geezer,” of Burnsville, Minnesota and Guadalupe, Zacatecas, Mexico, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2022, in Mexico.  He was a lanky, cowboy-booted, larger than life character who was witty and found humor everywhere. He had a persistent “can do” attitude, was a mentor and inspirational figure to many, and a legend on the Mexican vintage rally racing circuit.  He came from humble beginnings on the remote prairie of Lemmon, SD, born to Vance Stewart Sr. and Josie A. (Vatland) Stewart on January 29, 1939.  He graduated Lemmon High School in 1957 and earned his mechanical engineering degree from South Dakota Mines in 1962, where he was a member of Triangle Fraternity.  He married Margie Ray in 1962 and they went to France where he served 3 years in the U.S. Army and Vance III was born.
