2012 La Carrera Panamericana: Final Day - Anxiously Awaiting the Big Finish in Zacatecas!

Image
After 7 days of hard racing we are all anxiously awaiting the big finish in Zacatecas!  We love the hometown boys' welcome Zacatecas gives when they hit the arch by the cathedral!  And when Equipo TBZ crosses the finish line, they are HOME! 2012 La Carrera Panamericana: Here's To The Crew!

Image
Today is the final day of racing the 2012 LCP and this post is for Equipo TBZ!  Without the crew, there would be no racing and no finish for El Jefe, Geezer, Rene and Stewie.  This year's crew is Tonio and Bimbo and we must remember the crew back home in Zacatecas too.  The guys at TBZ work all year long on El Jefe and the guys include Imelda at TBZ too! Ustedes son tan importantes como los pilotos y copilotos!  Sin ustedes no podemos terminar!  Gas gas gas! No sleep 'til Zacatecas! Suerte to all! Results for Day 6 had El Jefe at 6th place in class and 39th overall.  These are the daily results so hopefully they are still ranked a little higher overall.  We will know very soon.......at least by 1am MST tonight, hahahaha, when the party in the bullring in Zacatecas finally gets going and they announce the winners. Equipo TBZ: Antonio Cordero - gracias! Mi hermanito, Rene Rodriguez. THE GEEZER.  Love his expression.  Makes me smile. Rene and his

2012 La Carrera Panamericana: Day 1-4 "Official" Results Posted

Image
The "Absolutos/Overall" results have been posted for Days 1-4.  According to this, El Jefe is 3rd in class and 27th overall.  If this is accurate, this is AMAZING!  Please tell me I am reading this correctly!  I know....anything can happen on Day 5, 6 and 7 but this is exciting. They are just under 5 minutes behind the TP leader and Paul Hladky, who went off the cliff on Day 3, got back in the race and is 3 minutes behind them.  That guy is FAST in Jerry Churchill's Studebaker (didn't that car used to be in Turismo Mayor??).  We really can't compete with that. Rene gets extra excited when we are on page 1 of the results and these are landscape format so page 1 is short and we still made it!  Click on the results below to expand them or see complete results on the LCP website :

2012 La Carrera Panamericana: Posting of Official Times

Image
This year it seems that "unofficial" results have been posted in a very timely manner to the LCP website .  During our first year of racing in 2006, results were posted to the website each evening and I could access them on my SmartPhone - it was great but that hasn't happened since 2006.  Last year was exceptional in that results were MIA the vast majority of the race, which makes it difficult to protest anything, and makes the results flexible if they aren't posted yet.  It made the entire race incredibly frustrating. One curiosity this year is that Day 1 daily results have not been posted yet, the day of the unfortunate fatality of Javier Davalos in Studebaker #130.  It appears that if you ran the stage where the crash happened, you got your posted time. But if you got there after the crash when the stage had been cancelled, you had a standard time for your class added.  For TBZ it was 3:22.0 minutes.  [Please comment if you can explain how this is supposed to

2012 La Carrera Panamericana: Day 5 Arrival in Guanajuato

Image
Day 5 successfully finished in Guanajuato for TBZ & Rodriguez Racing.  With Rene driving and Vance III navigating they came in at 44th overall and 6th in class.  Paul Hladky is back in the race for the second day since the fall off the cliff and moving up and he, interestingly enough, is in our class.  So ahead of us are 3 Studebakers and 2 Jaguars.  Hey, we finished the day; we are happy! Today Vance III is at the wheel with Geezer navigating.  The route is Guanajuato to San Luis Potosi. I also got the skinny on Yerie and Fernando's mishap on Day 3: Photo by Gerie Bledsoe. Also found a photo (credit unknown) of the curve that caused the 5-car pileup on Day 3.  You can find the video of this on facebook by looking up Ramt Racing Team.  It is quite a video! The corner on Day 4 where 5 cars went off between the guardrail and the rock. Photo credit TBD. I believe this is the Alfa that went off the above corner on Day 4.  Photo by Francisco Panam.
